Terlingua with His Co Apparel
Back in March my friend Amanda and I (founder of His Co Apparel) wanted to plan a trip to the Desert! Although it seemed like a whim thought, God had this planned all along! I started to look for places for us to stay and somehow came across Big Bend Cabin. I honestly can’t even tell you how I found it but I did! Their website stopped me right in my tracks! The photos, video and attention to detail is so beautiful! After reading through the site I knew immediately I needed to email them. I received a quick response and ended up scheduling a time to talk with the owner. As I started to discuss our plans for a photoshoot he began to talk more about him and the cabin. Then he mentioned God’s name and said that He had a hand in him building this cabin. I knew right away the Lord led us here! It was awesome getting to hear his testimony on how the Lord brought him and his family further out west.
The cabin and the views are absolutely breathtaking! We loved everything about it and the attention to detail of the house was awesome! With the house being close to the mountains the stunning scenery almost seemed unreal! The house runs off of solar power, gas & rain water. Because the house is on top of a mountain it’s recommended to have 4 or all wheel drive. The cars we took didn’t however we did make it up just fine! We were a little nervous but after driving up for the first time it was easy to come and go! On the way to the house we stopped in Alpine to get groceries for the week! There really isn’t anything super close to go eat or get food so we made sure to have breakfast, lunch & dinner’s planned! There is WIFI at the cabin but be prepared to loose it a few times while driving there! Thankfully the owner will give detailed directions though!
The owner was so friendly and we enjoyed getting to meet and talk with a new brother in Christ! He was very detailed and educated us on the house and area. Because we came at the end of June (it’s scorching but we got lucky with a light rain the first night and cool breeze the entire time we were there) we did have to be mindful of electricity & a/c since it does run of solar & a back up generator.
We prayed over this trip from beginning to end! Once we decided on the dates the 4 of us loaded up and headed to Terlingua! The two scripture’s we were standing on are Song of Song 8:5- “She arises out of her desert clinging to her beloved & Isaiah 43:19- “I will make away in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” We asked the Lord to lead the way this entire trip. To work in our hearts the way He wants. Although we were doing a Photoshoot to launch the Desert Collection for His Co this was also a retreat away to be with our Father in a new way.
“and he said to them, come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest awhile.” Matthew 6:31
The evening we did the Photoshoot we couldn’t have asked for better scenery to do it at!
The day after the Photoshoot we headed to Big Bend National park! We did a small 1.4 mile hike down to the Rio Grande and then headed to Terlingua Ghost town to grab a bite to eat! Later that evening two of us did more hiking back at the cabin!
On our last day we drove through Marfa to take photos, stopped in at a local thrift shop and ate at a restaurant called “WaterStop”. The food was awesome!!! While we were at Marfa Prada we met a sweet husband and wife selling homemade jams, Indian ointments & necklaces.
This trip was beyond amazing!!! We had so many beautiful moments and the Lord worked in so many ways! If you need a place to stay in West Texas I highly recommend Big Bend Cabin! I can’t speak highly enough about it and I definitely want to go back!!
